Terrible Ping

Last response: in Networking

I have dsl and live in indianapolis IN. I get like 45 ping to a Chicago server when I use to get like 15. I only live like 150 miles away. My ping is high in every other location as well. I don't know what to do, I have read about ping boosters etc but idk why I would need that. Is there anything I can do, if i were to call 2wire and complain could they fix it? I have tried at&t and they fail hard. I can't wait until my contract is up.

Have you tried power-cycling the modem and your router? Do all of your phones have filters on them, including un-used jacks?

If your ping is higher that it should be, contact your ISP and check with them. If you have neighbors with DSL, see what their connection is like.

How do I power cycle moden and router?

Unplug them from the power for a bit. Unplug them both, plug in the modem first. Once that boots up (give it about a minute) turn on the router.
