Hello,
I thought I wanted an i5 processor but the system I am considering has a 6950 processor. Is that good or bad?

Could you post a link to the system you are considering? I'm not familiar with any processor known as a 6950, that number usually refers to a graphics card. The only CPUs I know of that are identified with 4 digit numbers are the Sandy Bridge intel processors, none of which use the number 6950, and the original Phenom CPUs from AMD. Any quad core i5 will be significantly faster than any of the original Phenoms, which weren't that great. Quad i5s, particularly the Sandy Bridge versions (i5 2400, 2500) also in almost all cases outperform the Phenom IIs.
