You should connect it to the motherboard if posible as the motherboard connector enables you to monitor the fan speed and control the fan speed, sometimes according to temperature.

You have to conect the case fan to the power supply in order to work.

Regarding the fan speed control thingy, not all fans support multiple speeds, usually the motherboard has only 1 or 2 conectors available for this (while you ave 4 case fans), so in my opinion there is no point to it, simply let the fans spin at maximum speed, and this way you get the best cooling solution.

Agreed connect the case fans to PSU and use mobo sockets to control CPU fans.
