Hello, how do you fix a defective memory module? I have a Compaq Presario PC, and 1 of the memory modules does not register any memory installed in the Bios. I have 4gb of memory, and I know this machine will register up to 3gb, but it only registers around 2gb.

If the physical RAM slot is defective then you'll need to buy a new motherboard unless someone else recommends differently.

All you can try is reseating the module! Sure it is not a confusion with available ram versus installed ram, that would be an OS issue. 32bit OS only 2GB available.

I also had this problem with the two 1gb sticks. My computer came with 2gb two sticks of 1gb ram,but only 1gb would show up in the bios, so maybe it's a motherboard issue?
