$500 build need help!

Approximate Purchase Date: This week!

Budget Range: $500ish

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: AMD and ATI

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Additional Comments: I won't be recycling any parts into this build. My main concern is compatibility since this is my first build and I want it as smooth as possible. Is the PSU enough for this build? Anyway to trim the cost a bit closer to 500 would also be nice.

  1. If you drop either the HD5770 or the HD6850 you would trim some of the price! (Or which one is in the price?)
The BP550 is plenty for a single card setup!

Oops I replaced the 5770 with the 6850 and forgot to erase it so the price is still at $561.
  3. Looks like a great build to me! You could probably still shave a few bucks here and there if you wanted to get really serious about getting down to your $500 guideline. Still, what you've picked looks pretty good.

    Agree great budget build!
  5. what do you think of the Challenger case? I just bought one, and it came broken. What would be a better case for around the same price?
  6. This is a well reviewed case-
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 but its $10 more

This is the one I ended up getting for myself-

I think the towers are generally decent in this price range. It just depends on how they were handled in transit. I like my case just fine, but it isn't the most well reviewed case on the planet.

  8. You can trim $10 by going with this case instead

    Xigmatek ASGARD II $29.99

You can save another 10 by going with this Antec Earth Watts (though non modular). You don't need more for this build.

    Antec EarthWatts Green EA-430D $44.99

If you want to shave off anymore you're going to have to either drop down from a 6850 to a 6790, pick a cheaper hard drive, and/or get a cheaper CPU.
  9. By the way, if you spend a little more on the motherboard you can get an AM3+ board and upgrade to Bulldozer latter on. That might make you feel better about getting and overclocking a slightly cheaper Athlon II X3 now ^_^
