Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards Whats the best video card for around 150

ok so there is so many graphics cards out there so i don't really know which one to choose.
I know about the 6790 and 6850 which i would gladly get those cards but i have a sli motherboard
so when the one card that im going to buy gets old i will just buy another one.

OK so my question is Which is the best Nvidia card out there to get around 150 bucks?

Or is it just better to get a Radeon card because it preforms better for its price.

I also want some of the newer technology because there is no point in paying for old technology.

here are my pc specs

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M600 RS-600-AMBA-D3 600W
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

Neither. The HD5850 greg linked is much better than either. Here it is for $150 without rebates.

If you want to go Nvidia the best for $150 or less is the GTX 460 768mb. It is faster than the HD6790 or GTX 550 Ti but still notably slower than the HD5850(by about 20-25%.)

Greg linked a 6850, not a 5850 :)

Here are some benchmarks, so you can compare the gpus :

The way i see it :D : HD6850 > GTX460 1gb > HD6790>GTX550ti

So, if you can buy from Newegg, get the Powercolor HD6850 for 150$ Greg posted :)
This one has better cooling http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product (155$ after rebates)
You can save some money and get a gtx460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814121390

Hope i helped :)

Yeah, guess I read it wrong. As you can see in the charts you provided though the HD5850 is faster than any of the cards you are talking about. Not sure why you don't mention it. Seems the obvious choice to me unless he really wants to be able to SLI in the future. In that case he should go a bit over budget for the GTX 460 1gb as the extra memory/bandwidth is worth it if a dual card setup is planned.

For the record this is the cheapest 5850 on newegg right now.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814125318

$188 out the door, $168 after MIR. For that price I think I'd rather spend the extra $20 and get the 6870, which is faster.

$180 after rebate.

You could get an Nvidia card, but the AMD ones will be faster. I wouldn't worry about the ability to SLI later on, as there will be newer cards that you'd rather have.

Newegg isn't the only store. The $150 Sapphire card is still in stock at tigerdirect which is why I linked it above.

Yeah probably the 5850 is best bang for buck of all the cards listed right now

ok so i know about 5850 but as i know it, its an older card and some of the technology might might be out dated in the next year and i really don't want that to happen

^most of the cards' technology will probably be out dated this year, new series might come out Q3-Q4 2011

Micro stutter is an issue with dual card setups sometimes... not sure what it has to do with this thread.

Difference in these cards is only the factory OC right?

I should say that is the only difference.
