    This is the best card for $150;

    Best under $200 as well.
Even if you don't get that don't get the GTX 460 SE. Even the 768mb card is faster and it is the same price.
  2. SE = Smart Edition
    Lying description.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390 - Asus GeForce GTX460-768MB $140

Although, what's your screen resolution and rest of your system specification including power supply units details, if you've chosen those components as yet.
  3. My setup

    8 gig ram MEM 4Gx2 G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL
    MB ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 880G R
    CPU AMD|PH II X6 1090T 3.2G AM3 RT
    WD Velciraptor HD
    PS Coolermaster 750 Watt
    Case Coolermaster Haf X
  4. I also have a 24 inch Samsung primary monitor and a 19 inch off brand secondary monitor

If i can make it work i would like to use the mother boards on board video for the secondary monitor so the
video card will be for the primary monitor im not sure if it can operate that way though.
  5. I think that should be possible but you don't need to do that. Any current card can handle two monitors and the hit in gaming performance on the main monitor should be fairly negligible.
  6. GTX460 768MB defenetly. Or, if you can get that HD5850 that jyjjy posted, 150$ for a HD5850 is a steal.
  7. 5850 for 150$ makes it unbeatable for under 200$ price range, also the 6850 is way better than 768MB 460 or 460 SE, and is also around 150$, but it's beaten by 5850, GTX 460 is around 200$ now

HD 6850 is 170$ and up.
  9. ^ i meant AR, still it's great price in comparision with GTX460, which is worse and cost more...

Yes, i don't understand why the GTX460 1GB is still priced 200$... but the GTX460 768MB is not bad @ 150$, (especially compared to the GTX550 Ti and HD 6790) some models go down to 140$, like the ASUS one on Newegg.
  11. yeah the Asus one on newegg is greatly priced, and 550Ti is probably one of the worst bangs for bucks right now, even the 6790 beats it...
  12. GTX550 Ti is a Po$... that thing shold've never been released... better option would've been to rename the GTX460 SE to GTX550 Ti.
  13. ^exactly... i heard they also released GTX 550 Ti SE lol, probably GTX 560 non-Ti will be 460's replacement, as it's same amount of CUDA cores, but is on a new chip
  14. I found a 6850 for about 160 after the rebate

would that make it the best card in my price range then ?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150515
  15. ^there are tons of 6850s for 155$-165$ AR, and 6850 performs better than 460, which is 200$+, it's much higher performance of all cards mentioned, except for Sapphire 5850 Xtreme jyjjy listed, it's probably best deal right now...

    Nice find.

The HD5850 is approximately 10-15% faster than the HD6850. The only advantage the HD6850 has is better scaling if some day you get a second for crossfire though I'm not certain if the improved scaling would make up for the initial performance difference.
  18. ^ 6850 CF runs head to head with 5850 CF, and yeah 5850 is 10% faster than 6850...
  19. I like that Sapphire unfortunately they dont have it on Newegg and since i purchased all my other parts there i recieved 30 dollars worth of coupon codes

Since the only thing i really want is to be able to play the latest and greatest games

    Crysis
    Dragon Age 2
    Fable 3

would a the 6850 from newegg fit that bill
Thanks for all of you help on this :)
  20. Just save up $100 more and get the GTX 560Ti. It'll run all of those games (well, there's a problem with Dragon Age but Nvidia's beta driver took care of that)....
  21. What exactly is the native resolution of the monitor you will be using and what kind of power supply are you putting in the system?
  22. I have a coolmax 950 watt power supply

and my main monitors native is Native Resolution: 1680 x 1050
  23. And i would love a 200 dollar plus video card but im already pullin OT to pay for the componets I have already purchaced

i can probably pull off 175 but that would be about the top of my price range
  24. I only suggest that because I wouldn't want anything less powerful than a 560 personally. I'm going to SLI mine soon....

For 1680x1050 the $140($110 after rebate) GTX 460 768mb Omnisome linked early should do very well actually. There's only a handful of games that you won't be able to max out and play smoothly. That card in particular has some of the best cooling available and should overclock a ton if you want to do so(OCing a video card is quite easy.) If you have $30 in codes that's just $80 AR which is a steal.
Or if you can wait a bit that HD5850 actually is on Newegg. It is just out of stock at the moment.

  26. If i wait for the HD5850 will i be able to play the games at all on my current card it is a GEFORCE 8800 GTS I know I know very old tech but is it possibe just as a tide me over kind of a deal ?

What exactly is it? A G80 8800GTS 640/320MB or a G92 8800GTS 512? If it's the 320MB model then you'll play some of those on low probably, but if it's the one of those 2 (especially the G92 version) you'll be able to play them on medium with no problem.
  28. The resolution also matters. Even if it is a 320mb card it will still do fairly well at 1280x1024 and below. But to answer your question, yes, any model of the 8800GTS can still play almost any game even up to 1080p. What settings you can use however depends on which model you have and the specific game.
  29. It is a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 320BIt Interface 96 Cores

    thank you all
i am going to go with my old car for now
and buy the HD5850 when it becomes available on new egg

    Thanks Again

Then you'll be able to play those 3 games, and any newer game smoothly on medium, some with medium/high settings at 1680x1050.
