Enlighten me please. At no point will a GPU completely assume all video tasks. The CPU must still have some role to play through the chipset...correct?

IN modern PC games GPUs assume more and more tasks when it comes to actual image processing. Nowdays GPUs can even offload some of the program calculations, namely any physics based calculations.

You still need the CPU to do most of the actual calculations, such as AI. The CPU decides what you should see, the GPU than actually renders the visual representation.

There are new processors that combine these functions (AMD APUs) but its still a CPU and a GPU that have simply been connected on the micro architectural level.
