Dad just got a new laptop recently and I was fiddling around with it when I saw / realized it's only reading 1 core and 1 thread in it's Core i3 2310m CPU, when it should be reading 2 cores and 4 threads, according to the official intel website.
Any guesses why this it's being so odd?

Here's the config:

Sony Viao S series VPCSB25FG
Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit
Intel Core i3-2310m @ 2.10ghz stock
DDR3 dual channel 4gb ram

Thanks!

I don't exactly know where to look for the cores and threads in the task manager, sorry!

Does this screen help?

Try plugging in the laptop charger and see if it makes a difference, maybe its some sort of power saving feature on your laptop. Failing that it could be a bios setting, but seeing that it's a sony laptop there probably wont be many settings to change in the bios

I think you need to return it unless you can find a bios setting that has disabled all but 1 thread.

No No No...
First check the BIOS to see whether all cores are enabled. If they are and it still doesn't show up in windows, then follow the steps below.

You need to go to the start menu.
In the start box write msconfig and enter.
Goto the Boot Tab in the System Config window, In That click on Advanced options
Now remove the Tick from the Number of Processors Box and if there is a tick in the Max Memory Box , remove that too
OK----Apply
And reboot.
Check to see if it has been changed.
