no, GTX 460 2GB is the same thing as GTX 460 1GB, just more memory, and i'm sure it doesn't even use full amount of it's memory, it's not even close to 6950 2GB and is *like the 1GB* worse than 6850
April 16, 2011 6:49:05 PM

At 1280x1024 a GTX240 is probably overkill as it is, let alone with an extra 1GB of memory

But futureproof. My objective is to max out every game(except Crysis and Metro 2033) with 50+ fps. Thats why i got a i5 760 3.2Ghz CPU.
April 16, 2011 6:58:53 PM

Oww and i want to max out games for about 2years further.

Both those cards are overkill at that resolution. Do you plan to upgrade your monitor soon?

Not soon, maybe in next 3 years.
I dont actually care if its overkill. :D
More fps, better feeling for me :D

What cpu do you have, it could end up restricting those gpu at that resolution.

Intel i5 760 2.8Ghz OC'ed to 3.2Ghz (maybe ill go higher)

6950 on that res will max out metro 2033 with 60FPS vsync on  , up to you, sure you don't wanna wait till new series come out? probably Q3-Q4 this year

your cpu is just fine. I would really recommend amonitor upgrade at some point with those cards.

Well, thats a good idea. Im just 13 and im gonna get 150$ at the end of school from my parents and in summer i will save money for my PC.

When exactly will the HD7xxx series come out and will they be much better than HD6xxx series with the new 28nm technology?

OP: it's unknown when they will come out, but there are a lot of rumours saying new series will come out Q3 2011, but that's hard to believe *at least seems to me*, 28nm technology will bring us up to 40% more performance for up to 40% less power

The current fastest product hold itself as dual gpu single card is the ati 6990 but the ati 6950cf 1gb out performs it.Why didnt you ask us at the cpu forum of the best cpu available?

EVGA 2win is better than 6950, but i'm sure it'll cost a lot, like 400$, and it's a dual GPU setup = SLI = issues

Because he wants to choose a graphic card not a CPU, 6990 is a damn load of issues, and 6950 1GB CF does NOT out perform it, why does he need the best CPU?

I was just disappointed with the cpu selected.i5 760.

You might consider getting a better monitor - your visual experience may be be better served with a 22" monitor + cheaper graphics card.
April 17, 2011 10:53:33 AM

If you're gonna have all that extra power left with your vid card, make sure to turn supersampling on at 8x. It will get rid of almost all those jagged edges. Multisampling is a waste of fps.
April 17, 2011 12:26:08 PM

you cant afford either with $150

The purpose of the extra memory is to handle bigger resolutions, not increase fps at low resolutions. At lower resolutions, a 1GB 460 will give you the exact same fps as a 2GB 460 ....so what every one is saying, until you get a 2560 x 1600 Monitor, what you're chasing isn't going to help you at all.

Guru3D uses the following games in their test suite, COD-MW, Bad Company 2, Dirt 2, Far Cry 2, Metro 2033, Dawn of Discovery, Crysis Warhead. Total fps (summing fps in each game @ 1920 x 1200) for the various options in parenthesis (single card / SL or CF) are tabulated below along with their cost in dollars per frame single card - CF or SLI:

460 (314/592) $0.49 - $0.52
6850 (371/634) $0.42 - $0.49
6870 (434/701) $0.44 - $0.54
6950 (479/751) $0.51 - $0.65
6950 Frozr OC (484/759) $0.59 - $0.75
560 Ti (455/792) $0.53 - $0.61
6970 (526/825) $0.64 - $0.81
560 Ti - 900 Mhz (495/862) $0.48 - $0.56
570 (524/873) $0.64 - $0.77
580 (616/953) $0.81 - $1.05
6990 (762/903) $0.95 - $1.61
590 (881/982) $0.79 - $1.43

Your just a bit late, until last week this 560 Ti (900MHz) was $215 or roughly the same price as your 2Gb 460

A $65 card is more than enough for your resolution. Here's a $159 solution to the resolution issue:

If i have a Crossfire motherboard, should i get a ATI card?
If yes then i would get a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6950 2Gb and flash it to HD6970.
And im searching for the quietest and maybe coolest card.

Oww and if i will have some money i would get this kit (sry for German language but i can get the cheapest from there): http://cgi.ebay.de/NEW-RED-GANGSTER-GAMER-PC-TOWER-CASE...

Sapphire probably does not have a dual switch. if you want coolest and quietest then get MSI TF II/III/Golden Edition or ASUS DCuII
if you want CF in the future then probably you'll need to have AMD card, but i'm not sure if your CPU will bottleneck it or not

This one nice kit you listed, probably gonna think if i could buy one for myself :p

LoL
If there are four 12V rails and each of them has 32A then is it powerful? :D  Im not smart in PSU things. :D

That statement is as old as this subject area and is often incorrect. It can use all the memory that it allocated depending on the games played as well the settings. 1gb is very easily wasted these days and such cards are often made to appeal to those who fall into one of two camps on that thinks it is immediately better despite the performance for sales or those who know they actually need such cards. Applications like 3dsmax, autocad, arcmap, and games like gta iv can be real memory hogs in some situations ware the extra memory isn't negotiable but required. There are still R580 and G71 based cards with 1gb floating around for the professional market and 1.5gb G80 based quadros.

I see you keep posting comments like that and so I'd like you provide some more info on these issues that you keep on mentioning as I've been running SLi rigs for some years now and you've got me curious as to what I'm missing.

I agree.SLI nor CF hasnt had any issues. It is widely used in almost all games. What issues are you speaking of?

There was sarcasm in my words, and probably people, who use these applications, would prefer Quadro to GTX 460

Maybe getting to the source of your friends problem would be a lot more helpful than using it as an excuse to make blanket statements.
