Super slow boot up

So i went to boot up today and at first it just hang on the splash screen before POST, then i restarted and after ages it got to the loading windows screen then sat there for awhile, was probably a good 10 mins before i could actually log into windows. My first thought is my shitty mechanical boot drive because my SSD is in the middle of an RMA dispute and can't afford to replace it. Any other factors that would suddenly cause slower boots? I've been using a mechanical as a boot drive for about 3-4 weeks first time it's been this slow. Once i got into windows it seemed to be performing as per usual.

rig: i7-2600k, gigabyte z68x-ud7, 2x4gb g skil 2133mhz cl11, hd 6970, seagate 300gb 7200rpm hdd (temporary boot drive), 2tb wd caviar black, corsair ax850w.
