P4M890-8237 cpu

Hello,a friend gave me a Radeon HD4550 graphics card, it does not work properly, when I boot up desktop freezes up and icons turn white with black background, what can be the problem, anyone please?
My system: Foxcon P4M890-8237 Celeron D 3.06 mhz processor = 2 gb Ram DDR2 533 +/- 40 GB harddrive space - current GeForce 8500Gt working fine - LG Flatron W2453V 24 inch lcd screen. I suspect that the problem is with the Radeon HD4550 DDR3 and the motherboard`s DDR2, any help will be appreciated.

Graphics card Master

I HATE this board, I had two from Biostar with this chipset and they were crap. I have reason to think that it is the card. It could be defective however if it works properly in another system then it is the board as this card uses very little power.
