Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6
RAM : DD2 Cl5 800 mhz, oced to 966

PSU: Thermaltake 750 toughpower, 750w

ANd here is the question: which card should i buy to upgrade my ati 512mb 3870x2

Depends on your budget and the PSU you will be using. Anything from a GTX460 768MB and up would be a good upgrade and you'll notice significant difference in performance.

i Agree with you, but which card can ibuy without having bottleneck problem, Btw my psu will be the same, i will just upgrade GPU and i have 4gb of ram.

6850 i can buy easyly, but i don't want to have bottleneck problem.

You'll be using the E8400? The HD 6850 should be fine with it, especially since it's OC'ed.

^yup, that's pretty high OC and will be fine for 6850

how about 6950? i might flash it to 6970 also. last question about it, 6850 or 6950 with flashing it to 6970?

There is a 100$ difference, and the HD 6950 would be bottlenecked with that E8400.

^well maybe not 100$ *depends on card...*, but 6850 does not unlock into 6970, it's the 6950 2GB

100 usd is not a problem for me. If i am not gonna have bottleneck with e8400 @ 3.8ghz , then will be buying 2gb version of 6950 and flashing it to 6970, otherwise will get the 6850.

Well you will have bottleneck, but it won't be that bad because your E8400 is clocked to almost ~4GHz. Besides, any game out there will be playable, it's just that the card won't show it's full potential with that CPU.
And you'll be buying a new platform for 1-2 years, right? :)  So the HD 6950 2GB is overall a better choice, especially if you flash it to a HD 6970.

well how 'bout this??? since you're taking out a dual gpu.....why don't you step up to one of these!!!!!!

i just installed one for a friend running an amd 555 phenom ii dualcore o/cd to 3.8 and it was the muttz nuttz!!!

2xHD 6850's in Crossfire are going to give out some better performance at a 70-$80 lower price. It's not worth it, and he'll have more bottleneck problems with that card, because 2xGTX460's=GTX580. 2xHD 6850 are somewhat better than the GTX460's as i already said, so his only option for a high end GPU with that CPU is the HD 6950 2GB.

^overall 2xGTX460=570 not 580, 580 is very strong and runs close to 460s, but has much higher minimum FPS, and yeah 2x6850 > 2x460 only by a bit

the one he listed is 2win, not even worth it imo, it's better than normal 460SLi

and yeah Phenom II x2 is still going to bottleneck these cards, but less than E8400
!
