Additional Comments: I'm looking for help to build a system around a gulftown processor and the revo x2 drive. I hope to keep the cost under 2500 and would appreciate any suggestions on motherboard, memory and graphics card. I plan on only using 1 monitor for the time being as I have a decent one that runs at 1920x1080.

Solution
If your only running 1 monitor just grab a nvidia 580. For a motherboard since your not going to do much overclocking I would reccomend the asus sabertooth x58.

He's running VMs and doing things besides gaming. For gaming both of these CPUs are more than sufficient. For VM and parallel processing the 970 destroys the 2600.

The i7-970 is not unlocked, it's multiplier has to stay within spec. It can still be overclocked with the BCLK alone.
