Finally built my first comp, and im having some issues. When I start up my comp, sometimes I get a dram problem beep from my mobo. Other times it will not load anything. Then it sometimes loads windows 7 perfectly fine and runs fine. Also anytime I put in the other stick of ram I get freezes and bsods, so my question is, is it the memory or motherboard?

Could just be the voltage that you put to the ram. Make sure the voltage is appropriately configured in bios to match your specific memory.

Well I have not changed it... Would it be configured wrong even though I have not changed it?

Yes it may be incorrect even if you haven't touched it. So basically you should be able to pretty easily check it from bios that it's correct.

It may for example be set at 1.65V when your memory should be taking in 1.5V or it may be the other way around. And then depending on which is the case it may not work properly because it's not getting enough juice, or it may not work properly because it's getting too much juice.

Now it is of course possible that the memory is bad or the motherboard is bad, but check the voltages first.
And also that it's not trying to use too tight timings on the memory.

Another thing which 'may' help is to reset the CMOS just in case, they oddly enough sometimes are misconfigured when you first get them and might cause this kind of issues. The reset will reset all the values and it might help.

Thanks for the reply. Will check voltages and timings when I get home. Should the information for those settings be on the manufactorers website? Again thanks for all the info.

For the memory yes, it might even be on a sticker on the memory itself.
