I have a mysterious issue with a cisco 7942 ip phone. When i connect it directly into cisco switch it gets an IP and works fine. However when I patch it thru a netwrk point it just sits "configuring IP". Could this be faulty cabling?

Easy way to find out, plug in something else to that jack and see if picks up an IP. If you have a Cisco phone and a Cisco switch I'm betting you have plenty of computers to test this with.
