Approximate Purchase Date: Unknown. Hopefully soon

Budget Range: ~$300

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Web surfing, multitasking, music/video streaming, basic processing for schoolwork.

Parts Not Required: Monitor

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: AMD

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Additional Comments: This build is for a co-worker I am trying to help out. As far as I know the budget is a bit lenient however, he would prefer it as low as possible as long as his computer is "good".

I'm just inquiring for more eyes and suggestions. Here is what I'm looking at so far:

Mobo/Memory/CPU/HDD/ Video card ( I think he would be okay with onboard graphics but its part of the combo)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.634227

from there I was thinking a 400w psu, micro atx case, and cheap cd burner, but I couldn't a good deal.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you read my first comment, it's not my build and not my budget. I know he's willing to go over the $300 he told me, however I am not sure by how much. The CPU on that combo I think would do the job my co-worker wants the computer to do. I will gladly accept your $450 build suggestion though.

not that much difference, except that the onboard graphics on the biostar board are pretty decent for basic stuff (not the best for gaming obviously) but they support dual monitors i believe. and that ram i know its clocked higher but usually the motherboard will default it down to 1333mhz. i was thinking of building myself this exact same build but never got around to it.

edit: sorry didnt notice that i linked the motherboard twice thanks to dragon for pointing that out. i fixed the link.

I like the build. I think this will be the one I run by him. Anyone know if there is maybe an oem win7 with a cheap graphics card I could tack on?

I don't have any experience with linux. The college I attend allows me Windows products for free so price has never been an issue. I'm going to download that and try it out. My concern is that my co-worker is not so "computer savvy", do you think linux would cause him any problems?

64 bit premium would be fine. I can get him one of my copies if necessary but if there is an OEM graphics card package I'd encourage him to go that route.

Linux has a GUI, so it's just like Windows.

I think the linux will do if I cant get cheap windows software. I think I've come to a final build. I changed to a micro case, mostly because I've never built one and would like to fiddle with it, and found a bit better deal on memory.

Case/PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144110

HDD: (Nugget's suggestion): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148701

Mobo (Same as Nugget): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138290

CPU (Also Nugget): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148334

CD/DVD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106335

total: $322

I think that should do it, unless you guys see any issues. I will still talk to my co-worker about adding a video card if he wants.
