Vlc uses 90% or more of ram

there is a problem when i open mkv files on vlc, every time i do it my ram usage goes up to 90% and stays there, even if i close vlc the ram percentage doesn`t drop, the only way how to get it back normal is by restarting my pc. and this happens only with movies over 2gigs. and i already established that it`s not the movies fault because several of them worked fine before. windows 7, 64bit, ram 4gb
