Possible Fix:

<A HREF="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q245/7/29.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=No Buffer Space Available&rnk=11&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98" target="_new">http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q245/7/29.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=No Buffer Space Available&rnk=11&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98</A>

If you haven't been going to Windows Update on a regular basis, I'd suggest that you do so, and install the latest patches and updates for the OS.

This error indicates a shortage of resources on your system. It can occur if you're trying to run too many applications (of any kind) simultaneously on your machine. If this tends to occur after running certain applications for a while, it might be a symptom of an application that doesn't return system resources (like memory) properly. It may also indicate you are not closing the applications properly.

So my next suggestion would be that you run MSCONFIG, and turn off any applications that are not needed to run at startup, except for Explorer, Systray, and perhaps your mouse driver and Anti-Virus program.

Personally, I have never been a big fan of third-party programs for memory management. You might want to take a look at this page, and make some manual changes to the system settings:

Have you checked the Device Manager for conflicts with the NIC card and another device, such as a shared IRQ? Are you using a Cable Modem, or is the machine networked?

If you disable RAM Idle, and manually set the vcache settings, does the problem continue to occur?

You could upgrade the OS to Win2K with that machine, and I'm quite certain that would get rid of the system resource problem permanently. The TCP/IP stack and the memory management in a true 32-bit OS is far better than anything in Win9x. It's something to consider, if you are a Power User.

And if you have been considering it ... no, I don't think that your processor is fast enough for WinXP. But Win2K would run without a problem, with that much RAM. I've loaded it on systems running with 233MHz processors, although I don't recommend it.
