various message boards are getting the following report about Nintendo's
'Revolution' system:

"There is also no D-Pad and AB button in "revolution."

In a report in the Diamond Weekly newspaper in Japan, "it (revolution) does
not D-Pad or AB buttons", although an official announcement is expected at
e3 next year. "

......does make sense cause Nintendo said its next home system would have
backward compatibility with Gamecube.

Didn't Nintendo file for a patent on a new type of control system earlier this
year? Sounded rather like the Eye-Toy.

I'd actually be glad if this is true. Finally, all those so-called
'hardcore' gamers can quit humping their D-pads and actually learn to use a
control stick for fighting games and the like. I mean, geez, I learned back
in the old days of the N64, it's not that hard to make precise movements
with the stick.

Nintendo's Revolution Eschews Heritage

21/12/2004
By: Chris Leyton

A Japanese report suggests that the d-pad and A/B buttons may be a thing of
the past in Nintendo's opinion...

When Nintendo first laid claims to their next home console causing a stir in
the videogames industry, we certainly didn't foresee them ditching features
that they first introduced over 20 years ago and have become stable
ingredients of game consoles.

However today the Japanese publication, the Diamond Weekly, has alleged that
the forthcoming Nintendo Revolution will not feature a d-pad or A and B
buttons - aspects that have become as synonymous to Nintendo as a certain
moustachioed plumber.

If the report is to be believed then it backs up former claims of
introducing new ways to play games; a concept that has been highlighted by
the recent release of the Nintendo DS and their negative stance towards
increasingly complex videogames.

It's certainly fair to say that the increasing decline of 2D games has all
but made the d-pad a thing of the past, resigned to menu-selections and
other such trite operations; but the removal of A and B buttons certainly
makes for an intriguing future according to Nintendo

Perhaps you can just plug in a gamecube pad...

It'd be nice if it was a touchscreen pad, and the console has a ds slot...

Control Revolution with your brain? Reminds me of the scene out of

I think we will have to control every game with a spinny wheel, hence the
name "revolution". Its a GREAT idea. Platform games will be more like
driving games, FPS's will have breaks, it will make your TV become touch
sensitive and you will be able to wipe virtual blood off the screen with
your hands while killing Yoshis with a chainsaw as the boys at Nin re-brand
as more "adult". Touch sensitive, touch your mum. See? Its all becoming more
adult.

Yeah.
