Hello,
I have had the same recurring problem of my connection dropping every time I try to join the network from 2 of my desktops. I have a linksys WRT110 model router if that matters. I have tried directly connecting them both into the router but that doesn't seem to do anything. What should I do?

Has the problem machine previously been used with Windows Internet Connection Sharing ? -- disable that.

Otherwise sounds like an IP clash caused by something else.

Make sure that at least one machine is set to automatically receive IP addresses from your router.

1.) Network and Sharing Center
2.) Change adapter settings
3.) Right click adapter
4.) Properties
5.) Uncheck IPv6
6.) Click IPv4 (leave it checked)
7.) Properties
8.) Automatically acquire an IP address AND DNS address
9.) Save/OK
