I am helping my 7th grader write a paper comparing a intel pentium B940 processor and a AMD athlon 11 x 2 240 e. What is the difference?

Well this is an interesting reminder of older CPU comparison.

Ok well first of, they are from different manufacturers. AMD and Intel(obviously).

Second : You can compare them at these links :
AMD : http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/processors/athlon-ii-x2/Pages/AMD-athlon-ii-x2-processor-model-numbers-feature-comparison.aspx

Intel : http://ark.intel.com/products/55626/Intel-Pentium-Processor-B940-%282M-Cache-2_00-GHz%29

The AMD is a faster CPU with the same cache and core count as the Intel.

The Intel is basically a very budget CPU for smaller systems using less power (35Watts whereass the AMD is 65Watts)

I would also not suggest either of the two to anyone, rather look at the newer Pentium G620. If I had to choose I would choose the AMD for its superior performance.

Another thing that is important to notice is they have different socket (electrical and and physical form), so they cannot be interchanged on a motherboard.
