Bench Test Setup

Forum Systems : New Build Bench Test Setup

Word :    Username :

Hello,

I am looking for resources on setting up a test bench that can easily swap out various components including motherboards.

I searched the forums but I am not finding much directly related to this.

Anyone have any recommendations or links for information on this?

You can build one, all you need is a power supply and a monitor. Preferrable a couple psu's and a couple monitors, so you can work on more than one machine at a time. Then you just need a KVM switch (keyboard monitor and mouse) so you can switch between monitors and use the same keyboard mouse for all the systems your working on.

You'll need a motherboard for each socket that you plan on testing.

It's not like it used to be, you had one socket and you could test AMD, Cyrix, Intel, IBM all on the same motherboard, now you would need test motherboards for AM2, AM3, s775, s1366, s1156 and s1155. Not to mention there are s2011 and AM3+ right around the corner.

Google "how to build a computer test bench".

GeekApproved, jsc, thanks for the response. That definitely helps.

The main question I have left is whether I should swap out motherboards from a single test bed or if I should build multiple test beds with their own power supplies, peripherals, etc. for each different motherboard being tested (1 rig for an atom, 1 rig for a 1156, 1 for a 1155, 1 for a 1366, etc.). Any advice here?
