A bit stupid question but need an answer :)

Suppose i buy a cpu cooler that doesnt fit my computer....can i just make a bump on the side panel by hitting or bending and then put it back on? i knw its stupid but is it possible?

But my worry is that it might effect other components.

how can it effect other components...when i only bump in the middle where the cpu cooler sticks out...i knw the side panel will look funny but as long as i dont care...its okay isnt it?
