Onboard sound good for headset?

I'm getting a MSI P67A-C43 mobo with Realtek ALC892 onboard sound and a Creative Fatal1ty, or Fatal1ty Professional headset.

Is the onboard sound all I need for that headset?

I have used a soundcard before, the Audigy 2, I have it installed on my current machine. It's an old card though.

Has onboard sound(Realtek ALC892) advanced enough that I don't need a card?

After reading around more it seems like these two cards are recommended,

ASUS Xonar D1/DX
HT Omega Striker

I'm just wondering why they are recommended in that order? Is Xonar slightly better than striker? On newegg I see the striker has sold about twice as much...

^^ The D1/DX and Striker are simmilar in terms of quality features; Striker offers DTS encoding support, D1/DX offers software EAX 5.0. Very comporable cards.
