I recently upgraded my computer from XP home to XP pro service pack II.

Now bizarrely, if the system is on, cutting the AC power causes blue
screen of death.

Also, the system goes into blue screen of death if booting on
batteries.

I don't think the battery is dead, as windows shows it to e 100% and it
worked perfectly until the windows upgrade.

Any ideas?

This sounds like some documented problem I've seen before. Suggest you
google on laptop battery xp sp2 bsod - some of the entries sound
relevant.
