5770 or 5830?

I see that the 5770 and the 5830 perform pretty similarly. Yet, Tomshardware recommended the 5770 instead of the 5830 in Aprils Best Graphics cards for the money column (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card-radeon-hd-6990-geforce-gtx-590,2912-3.html).

Does anyone have any input as to why this was so? I see I can get both cards for around 115-130. I confuse...

The 5830 on average does better than the 5770, it competes with the GTX 460 1GB. But the marginal performance increase of the 5830 over the 5770 isn't worth the extra $$. That article recomends the best card for that price range, the best price vs performance ratio.

So if I can get the 5830 for the same price as the 5770 go for that then huh?
  3. Yea :).
  4. I was not aware that the 5850 had dropped in price so much. YES, if thats not out of your budget, listen to spentshells :).
  5. I second spentshells' suggestion. I just installed the card in my system today so far I'm impressed, basically silent and great performance.
  6. The 5830 is kind of the stepchild of the 5xxx series -- it uses almost as much power as the 5870 but has performance just slightly above the 5770 so is not a very widely used card --- especially right now since the prices on the 5850s are now dropping as well so the 5770 has the sub $100 price point and the 5850 picks up the $140 Point leaving little room for the 5830 !

I'd also agree on the Sapphire 5850 as the choice to go with -- though it is out of stock now but Tigerdirect does have it in stock with Shogun 2 game as well for $10 more @ $149 - If you do not want to chance waiting for Newegg to get it back in stock (since they might also change the price when it comes back in stock !)
