simple question, for the latest graphics cards is it really necessary to get a mobo with pcie 3.0 or will 2.0 work just as well? what is the difference?

More about : pcie

It will work just as well with with very negligble dropoffs.

3.0 Cards are backwards compatible with 2.0 slots.

PCI Express
PCI Express 3.0 would carry a bit rate of 8 gigatransfers per second (GT/s), and that it would be backwards compatible with existing PCIe implementations.
no measurable FPS difference:

wow ok, looks like paying a ton more for a mobo with three slots of 3.0 or more is not needed, i can get something pretty great with two slots for $130 or less! just thinking of sli for the future, but saving now is really appealing!
