Vista to Win7 lan games

Hello,
My friend and i want to play COD:MW 3 over LAN cable. The thing is we were able to connect our laptops (his -Vista, mine -Win 7) a few months back, and play 3-4 games successfully! but now we are not able to play any games...wen we connect via LAN cable, in the "Network", icon i see his Laptop connected to mine and mine to his..we secure the connection by exchanging our usernames and passwords. Still wen i host the game he is not able to join or detect me...plz help!

check any anti-virus/firewall programs, alot of the time they will try and block the incoming connection.
