Hey Guys,

This is my first post here at Tom's Hardware, and I was hoping you could help me find a motherboard for the gaming pc that I am building. Here is what I have so far:

CPU: Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155

GPU: EVGA 012-P3-2078-KR GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 448 Cores (Fermi) Classified Ultra 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Memory: Kingston HyperX 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 Desktop Memory

Hard Drive: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3B/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive

Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 950W High Performance 80PLUS Silver SLI CrossFire ready

CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler

My plans are to over clock the CPU, however I am not very tech savvy so I was looking for a motherboard that offered a good BIOS interface that was easy to navigate. I watched some videos on youtube, and Linus Tech Tips had one that showed the MSI BIOS which I thought looked nice, and it offered the OC Genie that seemed cool. Again though, I am not tech savvy and so even though I liked the looks of it, I'm not sure if its the best for someone that is completely new to the over clocking scene.

As far as a budget is concerned, I'd like to stay below $400. I'm looking for the best bang for the buck I guess. I appreciate any help/advice you guys can give me!

Your needs are very common. What I would suggest is a good, well built Z77 motherboard with lots of overclocking flexibility, and a better than average power handling section to make sure your overclocks are handled well.

Stay away from MSI and Asrock. They make sub-par boards, and since your not looking for a bargain basement board, I'd stick with Asus or Gigabyte.

I would go with this board. No need to spend more. It has all the bells and whistles, and ports galore.

Ill second the Gigabyte recommendation, I recently bought an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 mobo and have had issues left and right, I really regret not sticking with Gigabyte. I got caught up in looks...

Hi there,

Memory: Kingston HyperX 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866
You should change the RAM to 2 sticks or 4 sticks.

Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 950W High Performance 80PLUS Silver SLI CrossFire ready
If u are going to use 1 GPU card or even 2 cards, 950W is way too much.
650W for 1 card 750W for 2cards

My plans are to over clock the CPU, however I am not very tech savvy .......
How much u wanna to OC? With that cooler, u can go to 4.5GHz.

As far as a budget is concerned, I'd like to stay below $400. I'm looking for the best bang for the buck I guess.
ASRock is good, but if u have enough of funds, Gigabyte is fine too. I like ASUS and will recommend ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77

I would suggest another change, since u are saving on mobo, than replace the CPU cooler with a better one, that will keep your PC quiet and cool.

Than your PC can look inside like this in this one with overclock past 4.6GHz and with that mobo stable and cool.
