CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: (e.g., Nvidia 8600 GTS and 300W PSU

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: (Gateway desktop, windows xp with 2gb ram.)

Get a 5770 and a new PSU. Also 1 Gb more of RAm would help a lot.

Would with the 5670. Shouldn't have to replace the power supply with it, and would still perform better than your old card.

For a processor like that the best you should bother with is something along the lines of an HD4650;
