Hello, I'm looking to build a new PC for Skyrim and Battlefield 3 coming out this fall, I just want to get your opinions on which card I should pick up, I could probably up my budget to $350 if need be but would prefer not to.

Thanks for all your help!

Might help to know what the rest of your computer hardware is . If the rest of the system isnt good enough then spending that much could just be a waste .

But in general have a look at the charts section of this website . The gfx card chart should give you the information you need once you combine that with a trip to newegg

Well I'm going to build a new PC.

To give you some perspective my current GPU is an 8800GTS.

1920x1080.

My buddy keeps preaching that a GTX 295 still blows everything else out of the water, even though it's a couple of years old. Does he have a valid point?

Thank you, I really appreciate all the responses.

no. even a previous generation card beats that:

it gets beaten by a current generation 560Ti -_-:

and also not to mention it runs hotter, is a worse overclocker and can't do DirectX 11 (its a direct X 10 card) your friend really doesnt know what he is talking about, (no offense.) although the GTX295 is still a great card, it does get beaten by even some mid-high end cards.

That's like saying 'best house under £2,000,000'. Anyway, I'd say you should go with a 6850. Power efficient and fast.

Have a good read through Tom's latest graphics card article... someone already linked it.

If you wanna go for a 6950, at least spend a bit more to get the 2gb version (you'll still stay under $300).

You could probably even crossfire two 6850s for less than $350 (seems like American prices are cheaper for electronic hardware D: ). Two 6850s in crossfire would be a loch ness monster.
