How do I add a mini notebook computer to my router system

Hi I bought my daughter a mini notebook and assumed when turned on it woul come up because I have a router. How do I get it to access the internet and make a connection?

Is the wireless network card turned on?

Can you search for Available Wireless Networks?

If you find your network, connect to it and enter your Key Phrase.
