Hi everyone.

I am building a system and i am at a cross roads regarding selection of power supply. Power supply i want to buy is Cooler master silent pro gold 800w. I want to know that does an 800W power supply is always taking 800 Watts of power or does it depends upon usage. i am concerned about electricity bill.

And secondly i may install another graphic card (Ati 6950 2gb) in crossfire may be 6 months or a year later. so is it okay if i install an 800W power Supply now

Solution
The 80 PLUS GOLD efficiency of that power supply will actually mean that it uses less electricity.

But it's also important for us to know your intended/actual system specs. Most high wattage PSUs have very low efficiency at lower wattages(20% range) in which case you might actually need a smaller wattage PSU depending on your system (20-80% wattage is the sweet spot)
That's a good power supply. It can deliver 800 watts when needed, but only draws as much energy as is being called for. So a higher wattage power supply does not result in higher electricity bills.

There is no reason to wait on installing the power supply now even if it'll be a while before you get your second graphics card.
