Battlefield 3 Upgrade

I'm currently running

CPU: Phenom II x4 965 w/ Hyper 212+
MOBO: Asus M4A88TD-V Evo
GPU: EVGA GTX 560 Ti
RAM: 8GB Ripjaws DDR3-1333
PSU: Corsair 750TX v2
Case: HAF 912
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB & 1TB

I saw the recommended requirements for BF3 and I was a bit shocked considering it wants a quad core and a minimum of a GTX 460. The quad core is what got me thinking about the upgrade though, it says Intel or AMD. Could it means Sandy Bridge vs Phenom? The difference is apparent.

I was thinking about upgrading to a i5 2400 with a GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 motherboard for around $301 with the combo deal. Possibly with a small SSD for cache in the future.

Is this the right route to go?

  1. No. The recommened specs (predicted from game-debate):

CPU: Core i5-760 Quad 2.8GHz or Phenom II X4 965
    RAM: 4 GB
GFX: GeForce GTX 460 or Radeon HD 5850
    GFX RAM: 1GB

As you see, You're fine (the 560TI is similar to the 460)

Would those be the recommended specs for the high settings?
  3. May not be as bad as you think.

I'm running an Athlon II x4 640 on a 5 year old socket AM2 board, 4 gb of ram, 1 tb seagate drive, and gts 450, and at least on Bad Company 2, I can max that game out on my system at 1680x1050. I dare say if I would pick up a 560ti, it would likely max BF3 when that comes around.
  4. Not necessarily, but they will probably use a slightly more advanced version of the same engine.
  5. Ah you are right. The joys of PC gaming, the upgrade for the new game every year lol.
