Quad core cpu for 95watt mobo and am3 socket

i got the bf3 beta running on a gtx 550ti and athlon ii @ 3.6 ghz. i get 100% cpu usage and 80% gpu. i want a quad but for some reason all of the phenoms at 95 watts are selling out and not being restocked. buying a new board isnt a option for now. so what fps increase would i see if i had a quad in my pc.

More about quad core 95watt mobo socket
  1. What board do you have?

I believe some 125W CPUs will run in a 95 watt board depending on the CPU power plane setup...

The FPS gain will be there but not huge, depending on your GPU.

You can just buy one of the Black editions and undervolt. There is a decent chance your using more than 95 watts already.

Depends on what your overclocking. What board and processor do you have?
  3. i have a msi 880gm-e41 with a athlon ii x2 250 overclocked to 3.6 with a corsair 430x
  4. yea ive seen that before. alot of the cpus on there are hard to find or cant find them at all
  5. yea im in the us. i have enough for any am3 cpu but i really dont want to buy a new board. (being in high school and not being able to find a job sucks).
  6. my board unlocks cores but i saw benchmarks and honestly the new 8 core bulldozer just barely passed the i5 and i7 sandy bridges. being that the i5 2500k is only 219$ the bulldozer will eventually fall by intel and there new ivory bridge.

    exactly..
    ding ding ding.
    we have a winner.

the i5-2500K on a kick-ass LGA 1155 board will also be Ivy compatible and therefore really will pull away from AMD..
i plan on having both regardless.

Ivy bridge is a die shrink. Die shrinks typically produce a 10% performance improvement. Its not likely to pull away from anybody.
