hey anyone know where the hdd controller is on this old Laser 486dx
computer is it says "
HDD Controller Failure

Press <F1> to resume





Diskette BOOT failure

Insert BOOT diskette in A:

Press any key when ready" thanks

can someone help me fix it?

Well, at least you didnt post in caps... Ok.. even tho this is NOT a
laptop, time to help the new guy..

First... all the cables from HD and floppy are on right? red stripe to
pin one? Goes to motherboard, they are not missing a row?
Goes to card, same, card well plugged into motherboard?
Into CMOS, correct hardware set up?
Time and date off?-Maybe battery on motherboard is dead
rechargeable? leave pc on for 12 hours.. coin cell or other wise?
replace.

Use google groups to hunt for details, resist posting questions until
you are sure that the question has never been asked and well answere
before..
Look for a group that has 24hour help desk in it.. they do general
repair tips
