SR 1 office 2000

When a friend tries to install SR1 'Word' stops working, but everything else is ok. i.e.
"when it loads up it stays open for a few second then closes its self down again"
The only solution is to reinstall office disk 1+2, and yes i have tried to install it again.
Can anyone help?

office has a repair mode, have you tried to install sr1 then run repair?

I just installed SR-1 and now everything in Office closes 1-2 seconds after starting... MS says that it is because I have a version that starts with the GC6J3 code... which I do.. supposedly this is an invalid version/number...

Does anyone know of a work around? and/or if I uninstall it, will it take all of the old Office stuff with it?
