OK so I'm trying to decide on whether to get either the Gigabyte SOC 460( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125345 ) or the Gigabyte 6870 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125357&cm_re=6870-_-14-125-357-_-Product ).

They both are near the same price. I've been reading mixed reviews. I have no plans to run two video cards or multiple monitors so that selling point does nothing with me for the 6870.

I'm going to be building a $1,000 rig but this is the only thing that I need help with.

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=343401 Thats the link to what the build will be. Any help is appreciated.

6870 is @ stock 20% faster than stock 460, in this OC comparision i'd say it's 15% better, also 6870 has better cooling between these 2. 6870 is very lightly OCed so it still has a lot of it's OC potential, while 460 has almost reached it's maximum. After OCing 6870 it should be 25% faster than 460 SOC...

Everything I'm reading though is that the 6870 can't really be overclocked passed 975mhz. From what I keep reading on paper the 6870 is better but with the SOC 460 seems to keep out performing it. And the 460 can still be overclocked a decent amount and it provides a good boost to performance.

^hmm, all i've read was that it can be OCed up to 1200 core with stock cooler = sh*t, and no SOC 460 won't outperform it 6870 stock is 5% better than 850core 460, which in many cases is max for it. But 1200 core on 6870 is very high and usually unstable, also with so high OC heat is also a problem. Still some of 6870s are capable of running 1200 core stable, which is 300Mhz increase from stock, while 850 for 460 is only 150 Mhz increase from stock.
