Monitor goes to sleep, when powered on

Hello,
I have an hp pavilion p6310y computer. When I power the computer on, the monitor starts, but goes into sleep mode almost immediately, well before any programs load. The monitor is fine. I am wondering about the motherboard? Hw would I find one. I am new to this but don't want to invest a lot on $ into this problem.

Did u ever find an answer to your problem? Same thing happening to my hp pavilion
