I've been doing some browsing on newegg and can't decide if I'm even looking at a decent brand. It seems to me that Asus gets a lot of quality reviews but how to they stand up to other brands like LG or Samsung? It just seems like no company but Asus even offers quality monitors without the name premium. I want a 1080p monitor in the 19''-23'' range without spending much more than $150. Asus has fit the bill but I'm just perplexed as to why there isn't any competition in the price point by LG and Samsung. Is there a quality issue with these monitors?

Those are the two monitors I've been looking at. The built in speakers are not a big issue. I have a quality headset along with a cheap usb powered stereo system.

(Yes I do realize that this is in the graphics cards subsection but this is the graphics and displays category)

I can understand why you would recommend an IPS panel but I can't justify the extra $60 on a monitor that has an extra 8 degrees horizontal and 18 vertical with 40 million more artificially generated contrast ratios. I don't think you could set the two side by side and determine the difference. I don't even think many people could tell the difference between a plasma and an LED if they were set side by side. I am a fan of quality and love plasmas as a result.

Perhaps for a later build/monitor upgrade I'll keep that in mind. I'm trying to keep the current one under $1000. I guess the main reason I started this thread was to determine if there really was any reason for the lack of pricing in the $150-$180 range. After college I will most likely get an IPS though.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160062&cm_re=aoc_monitor-_-24-160-062-_-Product, I own it and I love it. Its a LED and its really thin and everything looks great. Movies games you name it.

No offense but this paragraph makes you come off as someone who thinks they know a lot but actually has little knowledge/experience.

For the most part, that's just me rambling haha. I am able to notice the difference between a plasma and an LCD with a 60hz refresh. My girlfriend has a 50'' vizio and the streaking on that TV is pretty pronounced. I'm not a professional by any means but I'm not blind.

Dyjon54, that is a fantastic looking deal. Thanks for your recommendation. I'm going to go look for a smaller screen size if possible.
