My brother is getting an ASUS gaming laptop with 8GB of RAM, a Core i7 (sandy bridge) quad core processor, and a GeForce GTX460m (1GB).

Will that laptop be able to run Battlefield 3 and all other games smoothly at maybe medium settings?

Off-topic, but how will BF3 run on my dual (desktop) HD 5870's in CF? Will it be more demanding than BFBC2?

pshh gaming laptops are trash why spend over a grand to play games at medium? 5870 crossfire should be fine as long as drivers don't ruin your time. We will not know until its released and tested all we can do now is speculate...

I believe the 460m is as powerful as a discrete 5770, so he will be lucky to play bf3 on med with that type of power imo

I have an HD 5750 in my old desktop and I can run any game I have on medium-high settings with no slowdowns.

You're ignorant of how graphics cards work. My GTX260 which is equivalent to a 5770 can run battlefield BC:2 on HIGH and could do max and still produce playable frames. Not everyone plays games at 1080p. Of course I am going to get a GTX560 soon for directx11.

ive owned a gtx 260 as well as a 5770 in different systems and I'm well aware of their performance. However it comes down to a matter of preference, my standards are just higher, that is all.... look at my posts I am certainly not ignorant on the matter, sorry for dawging your 5750 its a decent card in the end

I have got a gtx 275 and I maxed out bad company 2 at 1680X1050 but turned HBAO off as the advantage it gives is negligible compared to the fps loss.Anyway even in heavy explosions like in the desert fps was constantly above 30.average was 45 fps.I can play most games out there at max with games like metro which I play on high(one step below max).

@OP.Battlefield3 will require HEAVY CPU power considering the fact that on my gtx 275 when I upgraded my cpu from core 2 quad q8200 to core i7 870 my fps skyrocketed.

I believe the ASUS gaming laptop has a quad-core Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor.

i7 on a laptop is not as powerful as i7 on desktop.I beleive that the i7 on that laptop is only as powerful as a desktop core 2 quad q9550.Its a very good processor.I think on that laptop you will probably play the game on medium to high settings

yeah well this is where our opinions differ I like to play at 1080p all high and 8xaa and still maintain no lower than 55fps and this is what I can acheive with my current system, its all a matter of preference

How long should my two HD 5870's in CF last me until games get too advanced for them to playably run on high settings?

don't get your hopes up for crysis 3.Crysis 2 was one of the most ugliest console ported games.Crysis 3 will be no different. If you want to test your cards just play the original pc exclusive crysis which is STILL very demanding even after 4 years

i can ply bfbc2 max settings using gtx 460 @ 1440x900 resolution

^ yeah I bet you can that res is not very demanding... crysis died after warhead, why are pc gamers talking about it or playing it? it is a steaming pile of garbage with some of the worst graphics and image quality ive ever seen I'd rather be playing CSS, the game is a complete failure imo, especially If you played to first ones which were good....

agreed about CSS, I am also a big fan of the more arcadish TF2, gotta love rocket jumps at 19201200 with 32x CSAA, anyways lol, i agree that BF3 will be (At least) as demanding as BFBC2 likely a little bit more-so if the developer has started to implement more dx11 elements

Dude, JJB, why do you keep showing off about how you like to play your games in highest res and all. Your system isnt as good as you make is seem, why you gloat? No body cares, they are asking about how the game will play with the indicated laptop, not a desktop like yours. I am looking at this thread cause I have this laptop. I also have a desktop though: Core i7 950 @ 4.2ghz, Crucial Ballistix Tracer 12GB DDR3 1600mhz, EVGA GTX 580 @ 950/4300mhz, EVGA X58 FTW3 motherboard, Kingston SSDNow V+ 128gb, 1TB WD 7200rpm HDD, 1250w Enermax EVO PSU, Corsair 800D case, all EK watercooled. But I like to game while at work on my lunch or downtime so I have a laptop also. Everyone knows a laptop doesnt compare to a desktop, but not everyone wants to limit their game space to a desk. I didnt realize my GTX 460m was 1gb until after so I was also wondering since I play FPS games and will play BF3.
