Hi,

The problem in short is that I can't run anything as a full screen app.
If I try, the screen blanks for a second (I assume changing the
resolution), flashes the app for just an instant, then blanks again
before returning me to the desktop.

I'm running an Inspiron 5160, with an Nvidia go5200 (32MG) video card.

Background: I was having trouble running a game, and tried installing a
new Nvidea driver - actually a hacked desktop driver I found online.
It worked for the most part, but occasionally I'd have weird problems,
so I uninstalled it and deleted it from the device manager. The
current driver was installed automatically by windows when I restarted.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
hunwalla

No, the old broken hacked desktop driver was installed automatically
by windows when you restarted. Get the laptop manufacturer's latest
video drivers for that model from their WWWebsite and install them and
see what happens. You might have to do some kind of forced install if
that doesn't work, but it should work OK...
