I have been using my CX4230 camera with a 128MB SD card (plain, not
ultra). After about 200 pix during several months, mainly in the
lowest resolution mode, I cannot download or view all of the JPG files.
Viewing using Win2K, with a memory-to-USB adapter, I see the files
within the DCIM folder with names "0JPG" through "9JPG". There are
actually two of each. Their sizes are shown in the view with huge
numbers like 920,653 KB, while their "properties" showed 0 bytes.

Before trying to download with EasyShare, there were other names like
maybe "*JP.G" or "*J.PG" (I don't remember which), in addition to lots
of the regular names, like 124K2020.JPG. However, the Win2K file
explorer could not copy them.

The camera can still see 4 images on the card. For about three others
it shows "Unrecognized file format".

Before I ran EasyShare, there were at least 40 images that the the
camera could see.

The camera firmware version is 1.0500.

Does anyone have any advice on avoiding this problem and/or recovering
the images?

TIA, JohnH

It appears you FAT has become corrupt. ONE way this can happen it to
remove the card while it is still being written to, or, in some cameras,
power the camera off before everything is written to the card. There is
also the possibility of the batteries becoming too weak to finish a SD
card update. Avoid any of these actions, and avoid formatting, or
deleting from the computer.

Mr Hunter, Thanks for the reply.

I suppose that when the FAT is corrupt, the images may still be there,
it I could only find them. Have you heard of anyone having luck using
recovery tools such as

http://www.pegasusimaging.com/jpegwizard.htm

or
