[SOLVED] GTS 450 in a MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI s939

Forum Graphics & Displays : Nvidia [SOLVED] GTS 450 in a MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI s939

Looking to upgrade my HTPC with a better video card. My motherboard is a MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI so it's got a PCI-E 1.0a slot for the gpu.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813130487

I just tried an AMD 5750 but found that the 5xxx series video cards don't play nice with older nForce4 motherboards (http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=120655&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear ).

Does anyone know if the GTS 450 works in older 939 / nForce4 motherboards?

Thanks!

your wasting your money putting that vid card in there. whatever socket 939 cpu you have will be bottlenecking the crap out of it. no point in getting more than a gt240.

Just so others know, a 450 GTS installed in a k8n neo4 s939, functions properly. no problems what so ever. just be warned, 5xxx series amd video cards do NOT play nice with older nforce4 motherboards.

unless you are using it for CUDA. Next time try to answer the question not just post your opinion.

well you did try an ati card, which does not even support CUDA so i kind of ruled that out. So what are you using it for? I suggested a gt240 because there should be less bottleneck and it would be compatible.

using it in a htpc that does encoding. a fast gpu allows me to do gpu accelerated encoding. turns out that the cause of all the problems is a hardware conflict with amd 5xxx series gpu's and the older nforce4 north/south bridges.

I should say that is the only difference.
