I live in a house where I'm on the third floor and require a wired connection for best ping, before I moved in however the modem was on the first floor where the security system is housed which requires a wired internet connection to work.

When I moved in I setup two Linksys WRT54G's in WDS, main router upstairs with me and a node on the first floor that was hooked to the security system. All was well for about a month, then everything started to go bad. The node downstairs constantly loses connection to the main router, we haven't introduced any new interference into the mix. and I'm kinda stuck.

I don't want to run a wire through the house from the third floor but if I have to I can, I'm hoping to find a way to inexpensively get wired and wireless signals down to the first floor. Any ideas or suggestions?

I think it might be a problem with the physical node, would getting another router that has the same type of chip (Broadcom) be able to talk to my main WDS host ?
