i7 2600K @ 4.5GHz + Hyper 212+ temperature

Hi,

I have i7 2600K OC'd at 4.5GHz voltage 1.35v plus Hyper 212+ cooler.

When on idle all cores hit about 39-42C, but on prime35 I get these results:

Core 0: 71C
Core 1: 78C
Core 2: 78C
Core 3: 77C

They don't go above those lines, but I'm very worried because others with the same setup seem to be getting around low 70's at max.

Are they too hot? Is it okay if I use this setup 24/7?
Please help me out. Thanks.

More about 2600k 5ghz hyper temperature
  1. Temps could be a bit better.
    What case are you using?
  2. Rosewill Challenger.

    I overused thermal grease once and I wiped most of them. After that my PC wouldn't crash anymore, but I noticed the temperature isn't really that great.

    Are these temps going to be a problem?
  3. Max T case on your cpu is 72.6C.
    You've oc'd a little so your temps aren't terrible.
    Re-install your cooler and paste.
    The supplied tube of paste with the 212+ is more then enough for a few applications.
    It's good paste too.
    I've installed a few 212+'s and have had excellent results appling two small lines of paste on the cooler as illustrated in this link.

    First and foremost clean the old paste off the cpu and cooler with isoprophyl alcohol.
    Lots of people have very good results applying just a small pea-sized paste application to the middle of the cpu.
    Seems to me your paste application is where your problem lies.
    Too much paste is not a good thing !

    You see, the thing about that is I asked one of my friends to apply it for me while I was in the kitchen.
    He used ALL of them. Now I wiped them out and they are actually little than usual.
    Is having little also causes CPu to get higher in temp?

    Any other good thermal grease out there you would recommend for cheap?

    I don't think I can get it any time soon since my three credit cards has been blocked due to a Paypal-related issues, but I'm planning to get it by next month.
  5. Pretty easy to determine if too much or too little paste was used.
    Once the cooler is removed it leaves a footprint.
    The pics i linked pretty much illustrate this.
    You either have too much or too little coverage or you're bang on.
    Tuniq TX-2/3
    Arctic Cooling MX-2
    Thermalright Chillfactor 2 or 3
    Any Coolermaster paste..are all decent and often on sale for under $5 for 2.5g tube.
    $10 at max.
  6. Thanks. I guess I would have to buy these. I'm thinking of buying these two:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010

    What do you think?
  7. The paste is a good one,personally i just use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning paste which is a helluva lot cheaper and works just as good imo.
    500ml bottle goes a long way and also cleans my monitor screen,mouse,and mouse pad.
    You can buy it at Walmart or any drug/grocery store.
    good paste that's cheaper.

    the best pastes you can buy only yield 1-3 C temp difference max.
  8. My recommendation is:

    IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound - 4.8 gram = $20.95

    As good as it gets!

    http://www.innovationcooling.com/Innovation%20Cooling_files/IcD7HardWarelogic.jpg

    And in the chart there is the 7 carat not the 24 :)

    The 24 carat is some where in the 26-24c
  9. I have $30 on Newegg so I'm planning to buy everything from there.

    IC Diamond and Isopropyl alcohol are not available from Newegg so that's why I plan to stick with those items.

    If you can find a better product for the solution, PLEASE let me know. Thanks!
  10. Best combination you can find!

    Corsair H100 cooler

    +

    x4 Scythe "GentleTyphoon" 120mm

    +

    IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound
  11. I already have a cooler. I was just asking for a thermal greaser.
    Thank you for the recommendation, though.
  12. Check this one

    SIIG AC-TG0412-S1 = $11.99
    Thermal conductivity: 4.3 W/m-k

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835270005&Tpk=IC%20Diamond
  13. or this

    Antec FORMULA 7 Nano Diamond Thermal Compound = $19.99

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835209053
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_conductivity

    Aluminium = 237 (pure) 120—180 (alloys)

    Gold = 318

    Copper = 401

    Silver = 429

    Diamond = 900 - 2320

    Graphene = (4840±440) - (5300±480)
  15. Temps are fine, relax you dont need another cooler. The temps that you are showing are not Tcase temp ,they are Core temps. And @ 4,5 Ghz teh temps are good.
  16. There's always room for improvement ;)
