56.6 Modem Prob

I have a 3com 56.6 Internal Voice FaxModem.
I always connect to my server at the speed of 50660.
Recently I plug a handphone on my modem, with the phone plugged I only connect at 45333 what's the deal with that???

the phone or line to it can cause too much impediance on line=slower connection or the phone can cause static=slower conn.

Or maybe some changes happened in your ISP, or maybe a lot of people started using your ISP very often, so phone lines having hard time.

Federal standards only limit you to 53k on your modems, even though u have a 56k modem, you will NEVER get above 53333. Your isp differs every time you connect also. One time u may get 53333 another u may get 50660. Your telephone wires also effect your speed also. if you live in an old neighborhood where the squerls have eaten through the cable, you can't expect to have the best connection. Get DSL or Cable and u won't have to worry about those slow speeds again ( well thats not true, but i am not going to get into that. )
