Agreed on the PSU, and a decent 600W will run this system fine unless you have SLi plans.

Speaking of which, the 550Ti isn't exact-ally the best bang for your buck, a 460 1GB or a 6850 may be a better option if you plan to game. And, a good 600W PSU will power those too...

If you can go for Antec, I used to have 1 460, and a 620w fueled it easy and gave me all the ocing headroom I could need, also you will regret getting a cheap case. Try to aim a bit higher than that.

Thanks for the replies! as for the graphics card the 550 has higher rated everything than the 460 for pretty much the same price on amazon. and reviews have it playing starcraft on ultra. so hold my hand and walk me through why its not a good card(sorry for my ignorance, relatively new to this world) and as for the psu is there one you guys would suggest for under $80? nothing fancy just has to do its job. and as for the case, ive had this one before and it holds sentimental feelers in my brain so i gotta keep it. :)

oh and what about compatability lol! is the processor/motherboard/memory ok??

The CM 430 Elite is a nice budget case i just built in one a couple months back.
It included a 212+ and an OZC ModX 600W.
I agree with the other posters stay away from CM GX psu's.
A quality 500W psu will run your gear.

Wonderful! my thanks! i will grab that power supply then. going back to the graphics card i have come to a dilemma. would the hd 6850 be better than the gtx550 ti?? I also read that intel and nvidia are buddies now and intel cpu's will work in tandem with nvidia graphics cards. TRUE OR NOT? so to recap: 6850 better or worse?

P67+2500K+Corsair 1600mhz should work fine together, no issues there.

The 550Ti is basically a tweaked and highly clocked GTS450, not a bad card but the 460 1GB and 6850 (which are about evenly matched) both beat it handily for the price.

Nope tri-channel ram is for 1366 platform only it's not compatible with dual channel platforms.
These kits would also work.

ok you guys are amazing(especially davcon) thank you so much so my final build will be this, tell me what you think:

Antec EA-650 Green ATX Energy Star Certified Power Supply, Green

Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1 GB GDDR5 VGA/DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D/HDMI/Display Port PCI-Express Video Card 100315L

Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98 - Retail (Black)

Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8 GB PC3-12800 1600mhz 240-Pin DDR3 Dual Channel Memory Kit SDRAM CML8GX3M2A1600C9

Intel Core i5-2500K Processor 3.3GHz 6 MB Cache Socket LGA1155

ASUS SABERTOOTH P67 LGA 1155 SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 Supported Intel P67 DDR3 1800 ATX Motherboard

Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Desktop Hard Drive Bulk/OEM - WD1002FAEX

Cooler Master Cooler Master Elite 430 Mid Tower ATX Case with Window (RC-430-KWN1)

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler, RR-B10-212P-G1

I am getting the low profile version of the memory you told me to get so that my hyper 212 can fit over my i5. do you think this is a decent build for $850? i hope its the best i can do for that price. let me know your final thoughts and i will close this thread.

Looks good though the Antec is currently out of stock.
Considering you have a windowed case i suggest you buy a semi-modular psu.
Cables and appearance will be much tidier/cleaner.
The 6850 is fortunately not a power hungry gpu so a 550W semi-modular would be fine.
I realize you're on a budget so i'll do my best.

.

Nope stay away! any of the units i listed would be fine.
Raidmax isn't highly regarded as a quality supplier.
That unit couldn't even get an 80+ cert. which isn't hard to accomplish.
Any of the units i listed would serve you well.
I wouldn't concern myself too much with a psu having led
You want decent quality and reliablity and at least a 3yr warranty.

If you already have a 550Ti, I don't think the 6850 would be worth the 140ish dollars to upgrade for around an extra 9-15 frames. I would say just hold on to the 550 and aim for at least the 560ti (budget willing)
