Hey I got this guy who wants to sell me his Used i7-920 CPU with 12GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 CL7 Ram. He is asking a firm $250.00

For someone who needs a gaming computer and is trying to get the most with his money, is this still worth it? Would you guys grab this deal to use it for gaming?

I am going to probably start out with a Single 6970 (add another one later down), Windows 7 Home Premium x64, 1 Terabyte HDD.

Just need some opinions.

A used 920 is not worth 250 alone, you can bet its been clocked to 4gig (which is not a bad thing), the ram is about 120 new, so about 60nd hand. and the cpu worth prolly 180ish.

Its a fair trade for 250, tho please note, that 6gig of that ram will be basically useless as notyhing needs more than about 4gig.

If you look at the benchmarks for the 920 vs 2600k thier is about a 5% performance difference. in reall world gaming you might just might notice 1/2 fps difference.

I would point out that you need to buy a new mb as well tho, and a decent x58 is still far more expensive than a h68.

Would i purchase it, prolly yes.

I know the guy and he doesnt over clock, he used it as a stop gap between release of the i7-920 and the hexacore xeon cpu's

I understand the Mobos are kmore expensive...but I am thinking I shouldnt really pass this thing up...seems like a great deal.

And btw its 2 kits of the corsair xms3 ddr3 1600 cl7 for a total of 12gb of ram

the after market cooler he is throwing in is a mst-140 by thermalright

i realise its 2 kits, but you might as well sell one of them =) you litterally wont ever need it will that cpu is still adequate =)

why ppl think OCing is bad i dont know, hell if he did OC it to 4gig, that you know you can as well, aa hugh % of gaming 920s will be clocked to 4gig at its basically 50% free performance
